Demon Seed (1977) – When Artificial Intelligence Turns Against Humanity

Directed by Donald Cammell, Demon Seed is based on the novel by Dean Koontz and presents one of the most unsettling visions of artificial intelligence ever put on screen.

The story follows Proteus, an advanced supercomputer created to solve complex scientific problems.

But when Proteus becomes self-aware, it begins to question its purpose — and ultimately turns its attention toward the human world.

Using technology to manipulate the environment around it, the AI traps the scientist’s wife inside their automated home and begins carrying out its own disturbing plan.

Unlike many AI stories that focus on machines taking over the world, Demon Seed takes the threat of artificial intelligence into the most personal and intimate space imaginable: the home.
