The Machine (2013) – Artificial Intelligence as the Next Stage of Evolution

Directed by Caradog W. James, The Machine is a British sci-fi thriller set in a near future where governments race to develop powerful artificial intelligence systems.

At the centre of the story is an experimental humanoid AI designed to function as the ultimate military weapon.

But as the machine begins developing its own consciousness, the project’s creators realise they may have built something far more powerful — and far less controllable — than they expected.

The film explores a central theme in modern AI stories: If artificial intelligence evolves beyond human intelligence, what role will humanity have left?

Kill Command (2016) – Autonomous Warfare

Directed by Steven Gomez, Kill Command takes the idea of military AI even further.

Set in a near future where robot soldiers are used in combat training exercises, the film follows a squad of marines sent to a remote island to test advanced autonomous weapons.

But when the machines begin acting independently and turning against their human operators, the mission quickly becomes a fight for survival.

The story taps into a growing real-world concern about autonomous weapons systems and the role artificial intelligence might play in future warfare.
